#24. WORLD'S BIGGEST BUGS

Yes. Once in a while I do like to search of weeird stuff such as the above. But it really is quite interesting to know :D

1. Belostomatidae aka. Giant water bugs aka. Toe-biters.

They feed on crustaceans (!), fish and amphibians (?!) by injecting their prey with a powerful digestive saliva then suck out the liquefied remains. Looks damn freaky if you ask me.

2. Giant Isopod.

Not really an insect. Rather, it's a crustacean. And some Eastern Asian countries serve them on the menu (!!). It's fricking huge!

3. Giant Weta

It's technically a grasshopper. But, it's so heavy it can't jump. It's classified under the genus Deinacrida, which is greek for terrible grasshopper (joke right!).

4. Giant Camel Spider

Fast spiders that can run up to 10 MPH, and can grow larger than 10 inches in the Middle East. Apparently, they like American soldiers' sleeping bags, uck.

You can refer to the link if you want more info, I left out the educational facts cuz I wasn't searching them for any academic purposes, more of just for fun yeah. But omg thank heavens we live in Singapore okay. The worst we get is a puny centipede that isn't even poisonous if I may say so myself.

I spent almost 3 hours trying to come up with a program for the last question in my IT1002 tutorial.
3 solid horus okay - I promise I didn't slack.
At the end of 3 hours - I STILL didn't come up with a program.
So I am not giving at at 2.40AM because I am falling asleep already after having lessons till 8PM today.
I will stop slacking and strive for a reasonably good CAP because I don't want to get kicked out of Lang Prep Prog!

Damn it lor Java is like the bane of my life. I am so not computing-material.

Tentatively, I'll be flying off to Laos from 8 to 30 December for Project HAK 10.

At first, I didn't think much about it. Until I noticed my parents' reactions when I told them so. The first thing both of them asked: "You won't be spending Christmas with us this year?"

Still, I didn't think much of it and I just shrugged them off with a simple "Yeah".

Then, while I was eating dinner, both of them came to ask me at different times: "What do you think about not spending Christmas with us? We've never had Christmas without you."

Ouch.

I was honestly speechless. I couldn't answer them. All I could say was "I'll be back for just New Year's".
Then as I did my homework, the guilt started building up.

Crap. It really IS the first time in 19 years that I'm away from the entire Conceicao clan during Christmas and New Year's Eve. My Eurasian family has never celebrated Chinese New Year so the Christmas-New Year celebrations was our thing. Crap.

So yes I am now wallowing in guilt. I think Mummy and Daddy really do mind it and I DO mind their feelings even if I reacted to them coolly. But then again I really do want to go Project HAK 10. I've met my groupmates and they've been really motivating, so I don't want to bail. So, I guess I will be spending 25 to 30 December in Laos with guilt :( I should be more careful about family occasions in the future :(

Now I really want to get my parents something nice for Christmas to make it up to them!

I'm really sorry! :(

Great song that brought back memories of how I'd felt. Not that it matters anymore. And that's not the point.
This is a really nice song. I expect G.NA to be somewhat like another BoA - she's only 23 and I think her vocals are pretty damn good when she juggles singing and dancing by herself on live stages.
And, that she's been given the chance to debut as a solo artist amidst the current wave of non-stop girl groups debuting - she must have what it takes. I can't wait to hear more of her (:

The beef marinate is the yummiest I have ever tasted I promise ♥♥♥
It's run by Koreans ♥♥
And the service is good! ♥

It's $75 for portion-for-2 beef, mushrooms, 1 soup, 1 small pot of sweet potato rice, fruit (we got watermelon), dessert (we got 2 flavours of mochi) and coffee/tea. It may seem ex, but considering how frickin' yummy it was, I'd say it's pretty damn worth it.

Point01: We had appetizers that according to Mummy, changes every few hours. It comes on an elongated plate with minute portions of 3 different foods. We got seasoned anchovies, pumpkin mashed with egg (omg totally loved this one the most) and seasoned kidney beans. After walking around for a while, when I walked past again, I saw them preparing different appetizers already. This time it was an assortment of seaweed-based foods. Also looked yummy!!!

Poiint02: The side-dishes are free-flow refillable.

I think I loved the sides as much as the beef. There was kimchi (duh), big-head taugeis (I thought I would hate them because I usually hate taugeis, but to my surprise they were very yummy too! God bless the cook), seasoned diced sweet potatoes, and I can't remember what else already. Because I was too busy whacking the food ASAP before my monstrosity of a brother swiped everything clean. OH OH OH my ultimate favourite is the chupchae (assorted veg and vermicelli seasoned), too bad it's the only side that is non-refillable. I think I walloped about 75% of the dish by myself =X

Point03: Either the ladyboss or one of the staff would come by your table and help you with cooking and cutting the beef. THE BEEF... I can't even describe how much I loved it. It tastes better than any beef dish Mummy has ever made - and as those of you who would know, my Mum is one hell of a cook - so that's saying something. And they even have this long pipe that hangs over the BBQ stove to aid suction of the smoke so none of the smell even stains your clothes :D

RandomPoint04: I thought it was interesting how they were thoughtful enough to chop off the sides of the skin for each slice of watermelon (see the watermelon picture on top) so that customers wouldn't get watermelon all over their mouth :D Okay la maybe I suaku never see before but I'm still impressed!

Walao I have to go back there no matter what. I'm not too sure if my friends would be willing to indulge in this because I have to admit it's not exactly affordable to students, but I'm pretty sure the ladyboss can be expecting to see my family again some time SOON - not that I'm complaining ke ke.

Raving like a lunatic about Hansang aside, these 2 days I've been going out with my family - something I think I haven't done in a while =\ It feels quite good, because I did feel guilty every time I told them I was going out with friends instead. And for some reason unbeknownst to me, Mummy suddenly feels the need to buy clothes for me o.O And she'd been complaining that I bought too much! In fact, if I didn't stop her she would have bought even more O.o

Over these 2 days, she's bought me 3 tops from Cotton On @ Vivo, and a 2-piece dress (inner and outer layers) that was made in and imported from Korea. And omg I was quite shocked at the price of the simple dress. I get it that the material is good and I really do think it looks nice, but still...! It cost like 100 for the 2-piece dress! OMG. But both Mummy and Daddy wanted to buy it for me, and I really liked it... so... yeah. I swear I won't (I CAN'T) put this dress in one corner of my wardrobe - I will wear it as often as I can! (:

Oh yeah after these 2 days, I've been thinking of buying matching jerseys for Mummy and Daddy for Christmas - Man U, of course.

Anyone know the price of jerseys? =\

They've been gushing over the charcoal BBQ meat from Hansang Korean Family Restaurant @ Square2 Novena. Can't remember why but I didn't go the last time, but mummy promised she'll bring me there some time soon ke ke ke.

I went do NLB @ Hougang Mall just now to borrow Java basics texts. I finally got myself a new library card! Apparently, I haven't had one since I reported my ezlink lost in 2005, and and and! - I had $0.30 overdue since 2004! LOL what the hell. I like the new card which is hard plastic, it looks so much nicer and durable than the old landiao laminated-paper version. I am going to borrow many many many books and cram my head until it explodes and my brain juices splatter in your face!

I was right. I was and am emotional because it's that time of the month. I find it amazing how I can tell when it's that time solely based on my feelings. Wonderwoman x)

Anyway, I broke my heart spending $120+ on textbooks, and then as usual, mummy repaired my heart by sponsoring most of it. Lately, my mum has been generous to me o.O Wonder why... Hmm... But whatever the reason, I gratefully accept and will always keep in mind what mummy has done for me all my life (:

I finally got decent and comfy sandals so that I won't keep wearing flip-flops to school!

I went for the OCIP interview on Friday. Can't tell if I'm a sure-pass but I was glad that I didn't chicken out, considering how much I really LOATHE interviews. I've been chickening-out a lot lately... Hate to admit it but it's true. I really wish I wasn't like this but a leopard really can't change its spots that easily. I hope this interview could be considered a baby-step for me, or else I would have to keep wallowing in my own dark corner.

Still, I wish I was less of a chicken.

I lost my relatively new and favourite jacket from Cotton On today.

And for some weird reason, I'm feeling so emotional and I feel so sad about it that I actually want to cry. Maybe my time of the month is just round the corner. Or maybe I woke up on the wrong side of my bed today. Or maybe I'm just being difficult. I don't know.

Whatever it is, I don't even know why I let it bother me so much. There are other things that should take priority instead. All I can say is even though I am and never was a devout Catholic, I will pray for things to be good for you. There is so much more you have yet to achieve. So yes, I will be praying.

I want to be a rational person with worthy priorities.
And I want to pray.

I wasted away my entire weekend... Kind of. I only managed to revise the most recent Calculus lecture notes, even though I aimed to also read my Korean textbook and Economics JC notes. Haish, I need to stop procrastinating right at the start of the academic year manzxxx.

Spent the weekend watching SHINee's Hello Baby:

Because I was still depressed that it's so hard to find complete subbed episodes of Jo Kwon and Ga-In in We Got Married =( Hello Baby was not bad though, SHINee was quite funny most of the time and baby Yoogeun was 100% cuteness, but they couldn't compare to Kkap Kwon... Whatever la aiya.

Oh yeah, with Amanda's encouragement, I signed up for Project HAK 10! I really hope that I can pass the interview! I'd been keen on the idea of overseas CIP since JC but I've never stepped up before. I really want to participate in this project and make a difference to the lives of less fortunate children!!!

Today, I had to bid farewell to my wallet because my wallet spoilt. Because my mummy jumped on it. BECAUSE SHE JUMPED ON MY BED TO CHASE AFTER MY DAD. Very cute right? ZZZ! The metal clasp completely broke off thank you very much.

Although she offered to buy new wallet for me, I think it's not very nice if I accept. Or maybe she has been secretly thinking that my wallet is fugly and she took this chance to kill it. Boohoo. Now I need to spend money to replace it =(

Oh well. Whatever.

My foot is no longer freezing/burning! But there's still acute pain whenever I put my weight on my right foot. So, I'm still a limping elephant.

#2. STUPID WART

It really hurts! Imagine placing your foot in a tub of ice and being unable to pull your foot out of all that ice - it's so cold that you feel pain... Not that the dermatologist used ice la, so noobish, oof course he used liquid nitrogen. My foot feels like it's being frozen yet burnt at the same time. My brother only got a tiny wart on his toe and he was already complaining about the pain - I, on the other hand, had a huge-ass wart on the bottom of my foot okay! After the treatment, it took everything not to scream whille limping around damn it.

The aftermath:

I like the bedroom slippers mummy bought for me, even though they look like the grandfather-type haha.

The doctor explained that the freezing caused ice crystals to form around all the hard skin around the wart, causing the blood vessels and whatnot to be cut off from my outer skin. So, after 1 day, the wart would drop off, leaving the blood to flow and clot in place of the wart, forming a huge blister that would be render walking uncomfortable. I was even given a sterile needle and alcohol swab to pick off the blister when it forms - but it looks scary D: Then, give it another 10 days to heal completely.

And that would be my life for the second week of school. Time to study a bit now.

#1. HELLO! I AM A UNIVERSITY STUDENT!

Yes. I am back... AGAIN! Hopefully this time for good, keke :D

With the start of a new phase in my life as a university student, I fugured it would be nice to start a new blog as well... Sound so nice. Actually no la, I wanted a new blog because in retrospect, I feel like slapping myself when I read my old posts because they are so embarrassingly childish!

Whatever the reason, here I am again.

So far, first week into university, it still hasn't really sunk in that I am back to studying D: Need to get my engine started fast or else I will be lagging behind in no time! Glad to say I would get to study my interest (Math/Statistics), although Java Programming (part of Statistics Major Requirement IT1002: Introduction to Programming) scares the hell out of me. I'm also 75%-anticipating-25%-apprehensive about Korean lessons because there are people out there who have already taken private lessons and are taking the module to enter SEP or pull up their CAP! Unfair, I hope all of you get caught by the faculty :(

First day of school was already a 12-hour affair. Ridiculously enough, I got myself into a situation whereby on Tuesdays, I only have 2 lectures - one at 8-10AM and one at 6-8PM. And since tutorials have yet to start in Week 1, I was in school only for those 2 lectures with an 8-hour break in between... Stupid D: I spent those 8 hours visiting Hazel's room at Prince George Park Residences, attending an unnecessary lecture, bidding with Fang, Chea and JW, lunching with Hazel and Amanda and taking the internal shuttle like 6 times WTF. An exhausting first day, but I was happy to be with my dear friends (:

On hindsight, I feel very accomplished this week. I didn't fall asleep in any lectures and I even met up with some of my JC classmates couurtesy of Kehua's planning (: Hope to maintain staying awake in lectures and continue staying in touch with friends (:(:(:

Actually, I still have a lot to talk about but I am shit-tired. It's 4AM and I need to wake up at 8AM to visit a dermatologist to remove the virus-caused-wart-thingy on my foot. He told me he would be freezing it off using liquid nitrogen (how cool!) and I would be unable to walk for a day. So there goes my first weekend of the semester. Fantastic right?
